Flights to Ghent will transport you to a city steeped in history: In addition to serving as the birthplace of Charles V, one of the most notable monarchs in European history and former Holy Emperor of the Roman Empire, Ghent is where the Treaty of Ghent was signed to conclude the War of 1812. This Belgian city, located in the province of Flanders, is home to majestic castles that have been standing since the 15th century.
Ghent was once the largest cloth producer in Europe and the largest medieval city after Paris, but today these beautiful stone backdrops provide a quaint setting for one of Belgium’s most underrated cities. Ghent normally takes a backseat to Bruges and Brussels, but visitors booking Ghent flights find plenty to do here throughout their stay: Ghent hosts a milieu of marvelous festivals over the course of the calendar year, including the Gentse-Feesten each July and the International Film Festival of Flanders every October. Even if there’s no party scheduled for the dates coinciding with your flight to Ghent, the countless museums, cafes and cultural events are sure to make your visit to Ghent one you’ll never forget.
Regardless of when you book your flight to Ghent, the weather is on your side. You’re bound to encounter mild conditions in this Belgian city: Seasons tend to ease into each other with the transitional periods of fall and spring acting as temperate buffers for Ghent’s cold winters and warm summers. November-January temperatures rarely dip below freezing and hover closely to 40 degrees Fahrenheit, while June-August highs reach only up to 75 degrees Fahrenheit on the hottest days.
Ghent is a four-season destination and there’s no bad time to fly there.
Peak Season:
Christmas and New Year’s are celebrated with street markets, feasts and performances, so be sure to make your travel arrangements today if you plan on joining the throngs of tourists flocking to East Flanders towards the end of December. June-August is prime booking time for Ghent.
Off-peak Season:
There’s no bad time to visit Ghent but you’ll have a better chance of getting cheap flights and hotels in the shoulder season months of October, (early) November, February and March.
After you’ve booked a cheap flight to Ghent, keep saving money with Ghent’s easy and affordable public transportation. Since Ghent is one of Belgium’s biggest cities, it offers several easy ways to get around town. The De Lijn trams are very efficient and the company also operates night buses. You can’t get a direct flight to Ghent, since the city doesn’t have an airport. Fly into Brussels Zaventem Airport, and take a direct train to Ghent’s downtown.
